FOR ALL MY NATURAL LADIES, WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO JOIN THE NATURAL HAIR JOURNEY, AND ARE YOU HAPPY WITH YOUR DECISION? WHY/WHY NOT?

  1. I never thought I would actually go through with going natural. My hair has always been healthy with a perm. I could not get in contact with my hairdresser so I went to another professional hairdresser. It was there where I received a perm and permanent highlights at the same time. My hair seemed to do fine but it slowly started to break off. To make a long story short my hair went from a little past shoulder length to a bob to a fade in the back in five months due to breakage. One day I was washing my hair and decided that enough was enough so I got the scissors and started to cut. I did not cut the all perm off. I wore braids for four months, and then I did the big chop. I am happy with my decision. My hair is very healthy now, compared to what is used to be. Too bad the idea of being natural is not widely accepted yet.

  2. I have been natural for a year and a 1/2 and I Love it! My texture is 10xs better. I started using a relaxer as a placebo because I really didn't need it to obtain a straight style. The down side is if u are in the South, be prepared for a curly style or pony in the summer bc it is so hard to maintain a straight look in the heated south summer. I want to give a special shout out to my sisters at work for encouraging me to go for it. Mostly deserving shout out to my Butter Rican Mami Eva for showing me the way and making my hair look like hers! I have yet to find anyone to make my hair feel like silk falling. Luv u Ma!!!

  3. Wow,I'm sorry to hear about your bad hair experience Gabrielle, but atleast something good came out and you are happy with your new transition. I have been natural for two years, only because I have been rocking weaves for so long that it didn't make sense to relax my hair, but girl, every since I have been natural, I have become tender headed(lol) and I don't think I can last any longer. I may be going back to a relaxer. Yes, I realize that alot of men are not feeling the whole natural thing, they would rather have the Beyonce long hair, even if it's a weave. I'm sure as more and more women make the transition, it will become more acceptable, just like how weaves started.
